Mel Davies represented Wales in the Empire Games in Perth in 1962.

Mel rode in all the track events at the then new Lake Monger Velodrome, and the road race around Kings Park. He almost won the 10 miles track race but finished fourth after three riders chased him down and caught him with a few yards to the finish line. After the games Mel decided to live in Perth. He still lectures at UWA and is president of the West Coast Masters.

Mel’s 1962 Carlton, the track bike he rode at the Empire Games, has recently been refurbished by club member Alan Johnson.
